Privacy note
Privacy, in plain English
The Other Data is a small project by Nick Castro. It collects as little as possible.
The weekly digest
- What we store: your email address, whether you've confirmed it, when you signed up and confirmed, and the consent wording you agreed to. That's it. No name, no IP address, no tracking pixels in the email.
- Why: only to send the weekly digest you asked for. We never sell, rent, or share your address, and never use it for anything else.
- Where: a private storage bucket in our hosting account (Vercel Blob, U.S. region). Emails are sent through Resend, which handles the address only to deliver each message.
- Double opt-in: after you sign up we send one confirmation email. If you don't click it, we delete the address 14 days later.
- Leaving: every email has a one-click unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing deletes your address right away; nothing about it is kept.
- Spam protection: the signup form has a hidden trap field for bots and a rate limit. The rate limit runs in memory and doesn't store your IP address.
The website
- Analytics: the site uses Google Analytics (which sets cookies) to count visits and see which pages are useful. It never gets your name or email, and your digest signup is never connected to it.
- Your browser: the site saves a couple of small settings on your own device (for example, whether you've seen the guided tour). They never leave your browser.
- Searches: when you look up a stock, the ticker is sent to our server to fetch public data. Like every website, our host keeps short-lived technical request logs; we don't build any profile from them.
